FANDOMS1A: Are you ready for the Capitol?

Hunger Games is the first book of the trilogy written by Suzanne Collins, who became famous because of it. She got inspiration on Minotauro's story, Roman gladiatorial games and reality shows. The novel won many awards, like "California Young Reader Medal", and also was nominated one of Publishers Weekly's ''Best Book of the Year'' in 2008.

The book is about Panem, a post-apocalyptic nation controled by the Capitol; in the beggining it was organized in 13 districts, each one with an especific function, like coal, mining and agriculture, but there was a rebelion against the Capitol and the district 13 was destroyed, the hope of the population too. To show their supremacy, the Capitol forced one boy and one girl from each district between 12 and 18 years old to participate of the reaping and fight till the death in the Arena, this battle is transmited to all Panem, and only one of them can survive and reach the victory.

The main character is Katniss Everdeen, a girl who lives with her mother and sister in district 12, the poorest one. She helps her mom at feeding her family by hunting at the forest with her friend Gale, since they were children, but it was pretty dangerous because it's prohibited.

Primrose Everdeen, Katniss sister's, was 12 and it was her first year at the reaping, she was very nervous and afraid of being choosen, and the worst happened, her name was raffled. Katniss was shocked, but she did something, she volunteered as tribute, she wouldn't let her sister die. The boy chosen was Peeta Mellark, the son of the baker.They had something in the past, a lot of years ago and it can become bigger with both going to the Hunger Games together.
